Spend a cozy winter morning playing with vibrant patchworks, structural lines, and architectural collage. No drawing skills required!
As the February winter gloom drags on, it is the perfect time to plunge into a world of bold, uplifting colour.
Join me for a special session where we bring the striking, graphic world of Friedensreich Hundertwasser to the gelli plate, inspired by the towering, organic cityscapes seen on my travels to New Zealand.
This session combines abstract printmaking with simple collage. Instead of getting bogged down in complicated details, you will learn how to print glowing window grids and rich textures, then cut and assemble them into sophisticated, layered architectural artwork.
WHAT?
• The Mosaic Roll: How to soft-blend blocks of intense jewel tones on the plate to create glowing, patchworked under-layers.
• Subtractive Grids: Explore using everyday tools to scratch loose, organic window frames and architectural lines straight into dark top layers. You'll also be shown how to use commercial stencils for similar effects as well as other everyday items such as textured papers or strings.
• Texture Printing: Creating sheets of rhythmic patterns using combs and stamps to mimic Hundertwasser's signature building surfaces.
• Constructing the City: How to cut, layer, and assemble your printed papers onto a background to build an upscale, towering cityscape that is uniquely yours.
Gelli printing is fast-paced, highly therapeutic, and deeply satisfying. Because the process is entirely about texture, colour, and pattern rather than precise drawing, it is completely impossible to get it wrong.
You will leave with your own unique multi-layered architectural collage.

The max group size is 10 so you'll have lots of chance to get help and ask questions in a relaxed informal setting.

The room is upstairs in an old listed building. There are 4 big heaters in the room that keep us cosy but please wear layers of warm, old clothes that you don't mind getting paint on during Winter months.
Parking is free on site.
