Join me for a session where we bring the joyful, iconic world of Henri Matisse’s late-career "cut-outs" to the gelli plate.
This bold style strips away all the tiny details to focus entirely on pure form and high-contrast impact. In this relaxed, hands-on workshop, you will learn how to transform your freeform scissor-cuts into minimalist, layered masterpieces that look incredibly chic.
What?
• The High-Contrast Roll: How to roll out punchy, uplifting spring tones—vibrant cobalt blue, sun yellow, vivid coral, and crisp white—for solid, clean color-blocking.
• Scissors-to-Plate Masks: Learning to cut and tear your own bespoke, freeform paper masks directly from your imagination (think dancing figures, abstract algae leaves, and organic shapes).
• Negative Space Layering: Master the technique of using your cutouts to mask out areas of the plate, building up striking compositions where the negative space is just as beautiful as the shapes.
• The Graphic Pull: How to pull clean, flat, minimalist layers onto premium paper to achieve that iconic, sharp-edged silk-screen aesthetic.
Gelli printing is fast-paced, highly therapeutic, and deeply satisfying. Because the process is entirely about texture, colour, and pattern rather than precise drawing, it is completely impossible to get it wrong.
You will leave with a collection of your own unique bold, modern graphic prints ready to frame or turn into luxurious greeting cards.
