What?
Monoprinting is a type of printmaking that creates a single, unique print by applying ink or paint to a flat surface and transferring it to paper.
We'll start by exploring mark making off the gelliplate, making use of a whole host of found/ repurposed materials (rags, offcuts of card, chop sticks and more).
Mark making can be used to express moods to objects - wild and scribbly to express a rain storm or quiet and controlled to express a distant coastline . . . and everything in between!
We'll then create stencils/ masks to use on the gelliplate to create simple compositions - you can choose to work with a subject matter (such as landscapes as in the examples) - or work entirely intuitively and playfully. Both approaches, as well as working from photos, with be modelled.
No art or printmaking experience needed for this course - just a willingness to play and explore in a supportive environment - and with no need for specialist equipment, this can be done at the kitchen table if you get hooked!
If time permits, or for more experienced printers, there's also the option to explore the use of wet strength tissue prints to layer additional mark making or add contrast into the printed pieces.
