Liquorice Allsorts III

This series of works were created from an oft-explored desire to create a surface where I could select what to reveal and what to conceal. Lots of layers of playful exploration with paint went down first, which were worn down and then build up again. Painting a top colour allowed me to reveal nuggets of great marks or shapes which interested me most. It's almost an accidental process, much in the way that Liquorice Allsorts are the product of a happy accident, where a tray of new sweet samples were dropped creating a happy new mixture, hence the name for the series!

30cm square mixed media work on a birchwood cradled panel. Finished with cold wax. Supplied unframed.
